About me

Hi I'm Diahnn, I'm currently based in Madrid and have been here since the summer of 2016. I set up The Online English Bureau in 2015. I provide Spanish/French to English translation and proofreading, and English lessons

My career originally started in Export following a BA Hons in Languages, Business and IT. I've always believed in continuous professional development so, as I moved into management positions, I acquired a BTEC Certificate in Management studies.

In 2002 I graduated with an MA in Applied Translation and soon started working as a translation terminologist in Xerox gaining a lot of useful in-house localisation, translation and proofreading experience.

12 years later I decided it was time to go freelance. The very next day, wanting to add 1-to-1 teaching to my services, I began training for the Cambridge Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults. I thoroughly enjoyed the course and still love investigating and explaining English grammar.

My personal interests include animal welfare, marine life, scuba diving and sustainable development. I follow a variety of conservation organisations including Project Aware, WWF and IUCN.  I also love good food and the challenge of finding an appropriate term in English.

I have been made good use of this knowledge on various translation projects.

I have a strong knowledge of business and IT terminology and can quickly find and consistently use the right term.

I am a Member of Chartered Institute of Linguists and an Intermediate member of the Society for Editors and Proofreaders.

Although I'm a native English speaker I'm constantly finding out new things about English. I love to share tips on grammar and punctuation so a section of The OEB website is dedicated to this: see FAQs – English Language.
